GE Intelligent Platforms has one of the most complete set of I/O prod-
ucts for the military and aerospace industry. We have a wide array of
Ethernet switches as well and LAN cards. Other I/O interfaces offerings
include packet processors, audio, video, storage, IndustryPack
®
, bus
adapters, PCI Express
®
, Fibre Channel and StarFabric. In addition, our
PMC card products are supplemented by our AdvancedMC
cards for
MicroTCA
and AdvancedTCA
systems.
Our new VME-6500 6U VME multifunction I/O board has the
ability to provide analog and digital I/O functionality that
typically required up to four board slots, thus significantly
enhancing performance and functional density. The VME-6500
provides 8 analog and 16 digital inputs and outputs in a single
6U double Euro form factor. Each of the analog input chan-
nels is equipped with a 16-bit ADC, while each analog output
channel has a 16-bit DAC. Flexibility of use is facilitated by the
configuration of individual I/O from the VME host.
The VME-6500 can go beyond convention VME I/O board
functionality through configuration to use onboard or
external triggers for analog inputs. Analog outputs can
also be configured to generate arbitrary waveforms.
Digital inputs can be configured to use selectable threshold
voltages, while digital outputs can be configured as either
current source or current sink outputs.
The VME-6500 represents the first in a series of VME
multifunction I/O boards designed specifically to address
the military and aerospace arena’s growing constraints
in size, weight and power. In addition, data acquisition is
becoming an increasingly important requirement in appli-
cations such as radar, image capture and processing,
and video tracking. The VME-6500 has been ruggedized
for wide temperature ranges and to withstand shock and
vibration so that it can be part of a data acquisition system
that can be placed as close as possible to the sensors.
