applied image processing
Whether for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), air-to-
ground, ground-to-air, ground-to-ground, naval tracking,
remote control gun platforms, or range instrumentation
applications, GE Intelligent Platforms is at the forefront
of applied image processing technologies. We are
particularly renowned for our rugged, real-time image
processing subsystems and commercial off-the-shelf
(COTS) video tracking and image processing systems for
the military and aerospace arena.
We have more than two decades of experience developing individual
boards as well as fully integrated systems for real-time video image
processing. Our systems are able to extract the maximum amount
of useful information from a raw video data feed and deliver it to
users in a manageable form for the highest level of electro optical
system performance.
Almost all of our applied image processing products use COTS
products to provide the latest commercial technologies that are
able to meet interface and performance requirements without major
modifications. The end result is optimal performance from a product
that maximizes size, weight and power (SWaP) considerations.
Our array of ADEPT image processing modules has been optimized
for data extraction in tasks such as image enhancement, target
detection/acquisition, target tracking and system support functions
across the full range of military electro optical system applications.
Visualization of video streams is often plagued by camera platform
vibrations than make it difficult if not impossible for operators to
glean meaningful information from the scene that is presented to
them. GE’s real-time image stabilization system is able to elec-
tronically remove global motion from a video stream without the
SWaP losses inflicted by mechanical inertial stabilization methods.
Operators also benefit from the image fusion algorithm embedded
into our applied image processing systems. This tool allows multiple
feeds from sensitive to color visible, intensified visible, near-infrared,
thermal infrared and tera hertz imagers and fuse the images into a
single, meaningful image from which the operator can most effec-
tively assess the scene. In addition, our warp engine affords rotation,
scaling, and translation for each video source to compensate for
image distortion and misalignment between imagers.
