Installation Instructions
INSTALLING THE WATER LINE
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Read these instructions completely and carefully.
WATER SUPPLY TO THE ICE MAKER

be connected to a cold water line. A GE Appliances
water supply kit (containing tubing, shutoff valve,
fittings and instructions) is available at extra cost from
your dealer, by visiting our website at

IMPORTANT Plumbing shall be installed

and any local codes and ordinances.

The gray water tubing on the back of the
refrigerator (which is used to connect to the
household water line) is a PEX (cross-linked
polyethylene) tube. Copper and PEX tubing
connections from the household water line to the
refrigerator are acceptable and will help avoid
off-taste or odor in your ice or water. Check for
leaks.

avoid excessive noise or damage to the water
valve.

faucet and let it run until there is no more water
in the line.
C. 8VHDTXDUWHUWXUQVKXWRIIYDOYHRUWKH
equivalent, served by a 1/2" household supply
line.
NOTE: To allow sufficient water flow to the
UHIULJHUDWRUDPLQLPXPPPVL]H
household supply line is recommended.
D. 8VHPP2'RXWVLGHGLDPHWHUVRIW
copper tubing to connect the refrigerator to the
water shutoff valve.
Ɣ8VHDOHQJWKRIVRIWFRSSHUWXELQJWKDWLVORQJ
enough to make the connection, and with
enough allowance so that the refrigerator can
be pulled out of the cabinet or away from the
wall for service.
Ɣ Make sure both ends of the copper tubing are
cut square.
E. Slip the compression sleeve and compression
QXWRQWRWKHFRSSHUWXELQJDVVKRZQ,QVHUWWKH
end of the tubing into the outlet end squarely
as far as it will go. Screw compression nut onto
RXWOHWHQGZLWKDGMXVWDEOHZUHQFK'RQRWRYHU
tighten.
F. Place the free end of the tubing into a container
or sink, and turn on main water supply to flush
out tubing until water is clear. Turn off shutoff
valve on the water pipe.
NOTE: Always drain the water line before
making the final connection to the inlet of
the water valve to avoid possible water valve
malfunction.
G. Bend the copper tubing to meet the water line
inlet, located on the back of the refrigerator
cabinet.

7/16" and 1/2" Open-end wrenches
or adjustable wrenches (2)
NOTE: 'RQRWXVHDSLHUFLQJW\SHRU
(4.76 mm) saddle valve which reduces water flow
and clogs easier.
